Frauscher Australia

Local presence

Frauscher Sensor Technology first introduced its wheel detection and axle counting technology into Australia and New Zealand more than ten years ago. The use of the ACS2000 and FAdC systems continues to rapidly expand on main lines, metros, freight and for the improvement of level crossings. With the establishment of Frauscher Sensor Technology Australia Pty Ltd in Melbourne, the company provides direct sales and support throughout the region, with the ability for customers to directly connect with Frauscher technical staff providing application and project design and detailed training for system configuration, installation and commissioning support such that operators and maintainers can independently manage the systems.

Global experience

Best-in-class wheel detection systems, axle counters and tracking solutions based on inductive sensor technology and Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) form an essential component of a wide range of applications. Headquartered in Austria, Frauscher has installed over 160,000 systems in over 80 countries worldwide. The company and its products are accredited to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. With its own experts on-site in Melbourne, Frauscher Australia can ensure optimum service for both, existing and new customers since 2015. Up to now Frauscher has realized a number of prestigious projects in Australia and New Zealand. For example the Frauscher Advanced Counter FAdC was implemented for train detection on ARTC’s tracks between Port Augusta and Darwin/Kalgoorlie. In order to realise train detection as well, New Zealand Railways uses the Frauscher Axle Counting System ACS2000 for approximately 700 track sections.

Benefits of FAdC

Whilst historically, the ACS2000 systems have been widely used, in recent years, focus of the railways has turned towards the modular functionality and flexible scalability of the FAdC. Its Ethernet-based software interface permits a wide range of individual configurations such as counting head control, virtual supervisory track sections and innovative reset procedures. Making use of latest technology, its benefits include savings on space through rationalisation of equipment, reduced energy consumption, allowing solar power usage and lower investment costs which can reduce further with project scaling.
